STEP-BY-STEP INSTALLATION
STEP 1: DEMOUNT THE TIRE
Deflate completely — Remove valve core.
Break both beads — Use bead breaker or machine.
Photo A: Bead broken, tire loose on rim
STEP 2: CLEAN THE RIM GROOVE
Remove old O-ring (if present) with plastic pick.
Spray groove with brake cleaner → Wipe dry.
Inspect groove — No nicks, burrs, or rust.
Photo B: Clean groove (macro shot, bright light)
STEP 3: VERIFY O-RING SIZE
Check | Correct | Wrong |
Inner Diameter (ID) | Sits in groove with light stretch | Too loose → leaks |
Cross-Section (CS) | Fills groove 80–90% | Too thin → no seal |
Photo C: O-ring test-fit in groove (not stretched yet)
STEP 4: LUBRICATE
Light coat of tire lube on:
O-ring (both sides)
Rim groove
Tire bead (inside)
NO PETROLEUM (WD-40, grease) — destroys rubber!
Photo D: Lube applied (glossy but not dripping)
STEP 5: INSTALL O-RING
Start at valve stem → Work around rim.
Push into groove with thumbs — No tools!
Ensure NO TWISTS — Must lie flat.
Photo E: O-ring fully seated, no twists (top-down view)
STEP 6: MOUNT THE TIRE
Lay tire on rim — Bottom bead first.
Use plastic tire irons — Work bead over rim lip.
Top bead last — Pop into place.
Photo F: Top bead going over rim (arrow showing direction)
STEP 7: INFLATE & SEAT
Reinstall valve core.
Inflate to 40–50 psi → Beads should “POP” into place.
Check O-ring — Still visible in groove? Good.
Photo G: Bead seated, O-ring visible in groove (red arrow)
STEP 8: FINAL CHECK
Test | Pass |
Soap test — No bubbles at bead | ✅ |
Pressure hold — 24 hrs, <2 psi drop | ✅ |
Spin balance — No wobble | ✅ |
Photo H: Soap bubbles test (no leaks)
TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem | Fix |
Air leak at bead | Re-break, re-lube, re-seat |
O-ring popped out | Wrong size or over-inflated |
Bead won’t seat | Add strap ratchet or use starter burst (safety cage!) |
SAFETY WARNINGS
Wear safety glasses
Use tire cage if inflating >40 psi
Never stand over tire during seating
